Property & Casualty

Protection for buildings, plant and stock, and for the income lost while damage is being put right.

Covers
5
Typically for
Any business with premises, plant, stock or a contract works exposure.

In practice

Property is usually the largest single line on a commercial programme, and the one where the wording matters most. Two policies can both say “fire” and answer very differently on flood, on the basis of settlement, and on how long they will keep paying once you have stopped trading.

The questions worth settling before renewal are the sum insured basis (reinstatement or indemnity), whether the indemnity period on business interruption is long enough to actually rebuild, and which perils sit inside the policy rather than in an extension you have not bought.

What it covers

5 covers

Fire & Allied Perils
The building, plant and stock against fire, lightning and explosion, with perils such as storm, flood, impact and malicious damage added by extension.
Business Interruption Including Loss of Profits
Replaces the gross profit lost while trading is suspended after damage, and meets the standing costs that continue while you are shut.
Engineering Insurance
Plant and machinery against sudden breakdown, and contract works against damage during construction or erection.
Property All Risks
Accidental loss or damage from any cause not specifically excluded, rather than only from a named list of perils.
Engineering
Statutory and periodic inspection of pressure vessels, lifts and lifting gear, alongside cover for the plant itself.

Cover names are those used in the Zambian market; the exact scope of any policy depends on its wording and endorsements. We will set out what a quotation does and does not include before you bind it.
